This website poses out a range of courses from five main sections of CATC namely, Air Traffic Management, Aeronautical Information Management, Communication, Navigation and Surveillance, Flight and Airport Operations, Aviation Security and Course Development and main activities done at the Centre. We aim at producing competent personnel to foster the development of the dynamic and fast-growing aviation industry. Due to high demand of aviation professional, we encourage the qualified students to join CATC and nurture their dreams to work for the industry. Our courses are nationally and internationally recognized and could make you work anywhere provided they meet the standards in the particular country. Who we are

The Centre has existed from 1985 supporting training of technical cadres in the air navigation services under the then Directorate of Civil Aviation (DCA) that came into establishment after the collapse of East African Community. The Civil Aviation (Training Centre) Establishment Order, 2020 made under sections 26 (1)(o) of the Civil Aviation ACT (CAP 80), legalizes the existence of the Centre and stipulates;

The objectives
(a) ensure that the requirements of qualified and competent aviation professionals are adequately met in aviation industry
(b) maintain competent and self-motivated aviation trainers or instructors and
(c) support personnel so as to create and maintain a Centre of excellence in aviation training capable of meeting internal and external training needs.

The functions
(a) train professionals in the aviation industry
(b) provide adequate and up to date training facilities
(c) assist in the preservation, transmission, dissemination and enhancement of knowledge in the field of aviation
(d) create a sense of public responsibility for aviation and to promote respect for learning and pursuit of truth
(e) prepare students to work with stakeholders worldwide in the aviation industry for the purpose of better development and strengthening of economy
(f) conduct examinations, grant certificates and other awards of the Centre
(g) affiliate with other institutions
(h) develop training courses
(i) develop and maintain Quality Manual and Training and Procedure Manual
(j) initiate and conduct basic and applied research in the fields of aviation and to promote the integration of the research with training and aviation service providers
(k) mainstream gender issues and equal opportunities in all Institution’s programmes and activities to enhance equity and productivity
(l) develop and maintain the aviation library
(m) provide consultancy services in aviation industry
(n) provide for the social welfare of students, instructors and other staff and
(o) perform any other function conferred upon the Centre by the Authority.

CATC Core Values
The Centre will embrace five (5) core values which will provide a guiding principle in service delivery. These values include Excellency, Efficiency, Teamwork, Flexibility, and Safety.

Excellence
The Centre will devote to undertake its duties with Excellency in all spheres of delivery. It aims at becoming a centre of excellence in aviation training within Africa and beyond.

Efficiency
Efficiency creates optimal utilization of scarce resources. The Centre aim at utilizing available scarce resources in an efficient manner to maximize output.

Teamwork
The Centre’s management and all other staff members devote to work together as a team so as to deliver quality services to all our esteemed customers. The spirit of working together and supporting each other will be inculcated throughout the centre to ensure that all adhere to this important core value.

Flexibility
The current world is dynamic in technological change. The aviation industry is one of the highly changing industry in terms of technology, market, and procedural requirements. The Centre is flexible is adaptive to the world changes and will keep being flexible.

Safety
Air transport is the safest mode of transport worldwide. The industry is highly regulated and Safety is the paramount issue in every aspect. Aviation Training Centre recognises this fact and endeavors to promote it in all its undertakings.

Facilities

The Centre has two main campuses one at the Terminal One Building, Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) and a second at the Transmission Station (TX) Building near Aviation House at the Banana, Kitunda Junction. The campuses have

  • Well varnished and full Airconditioned classrooms with wi-fi and power point projectors for classroom lesson presentations
  • A modest library stocked with aviation books, magazines, and journals
  • 3D Simulator for aerodrome and other 2D simulators for Aerodrome, Approach, and Area; new state of the art Approach and Area surveillance simulator
  • An AVSED Laboratory with Walk Through Metal Detector (WTMD) and Hand-Held Metal Detector among others
  • A Computer Laboratory
  • Kitchen and Canteen for trainee’s welfare
